Culture Survey
AIA's culture and employee-engagement survey methodology: a structured Engage-Design-Pilot-Collect-Analyse-Report evaluation cycle combining quantitative surveys and qualitative focus groups, scored against adapted Employee Value Proposition and Denison-style Performance Culture frameworks.
What it is
A mixed-methods survey methodology (online/physical quantitative survey plus qualitative focus groups) run through a six-stage Evaluation Process Cycle — Engage, Design, Pilot/Test, Collect Data, Analyse, Report — with results mapped against an Employee Value Proposition (EVP) framework and/or a Denison Organisational Culture Survey-adapted Performance Culture framework (Empowerment, Adaptability, Goals, Structure, Capability, Learning, Direction, Coordination), and optionally a SERVQUAL-style service-quality lens.
Problem it solves
Simply surveying culture and graphically presenting results provides limited insight; mapping results to a validated framework is necessary to generate actionable, targeted recommendations (explicit source guidance, slide 68 notes).
When to use
- A client needs to measure employee engagement, organisational climate or culture as an input to a change or HR strategy programme
Key questions
- What is currently working, not working, and desired for the future? (Define/Stop/Start focus-group questions)
- How do employees rate the organisation against the EVP or Performance Culture domains?
- What are the qualitative themes emerging from focus groups, and do they corroborate survey data?
Inputs
- Stakeholder/employee population and segmentation plan
- Prior survey/assessment history (for trend comparison)
- Selected assessment framework (EVP, Denison-adapted, SERVQUAL)
Steps
- 1EngageIdentify needs, align research objectives, and secure stakeholder buy-in.
- 2DesignDevelop survey tools, sampling strategy, data-collection plan and mode of collection, mapped to the chosen assessment framework.
- 3Pilot / TestPretest the tool for clarity, accessibility and technical functionality; correct errors.
- 4Collect DataDeploy tools and gather data across stakeholder groups (multi-language where required), combining online survey and physical focus groups.
- 5AnalyseClean, process and interpret quantitative and qualitative data, triangulating both.
- 6ReportConsolidate insights, map to the chosen framework, and workshop recommendations with the client.
Outputs
- Culture/employee engagement assessment report
- Scored results against EVP or Performance Culture framework
- Prioritised, framework-aligned recommendations
